Adesina Declares Victory in APC Primary, Appeals for Peace and Party Unity

By Sherifdeen Amusa

An aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Lagos State House of Assembly, Surulere Constituency II, Kevin Adesina, has appealed for calm among his supporters while urging party leaders at the state level to uphold justice, equity, and fairness in the ongoing collation of primary election results.

Adesina made the appeal during an appreciation gathering for his supporters in Aguda, Surulere, where he reaffirmed his belief in party supremacy and pledged to abide by the decisions of the party leadership.

Speaking at the gathering, Adesina said:

“My message to the party leaders is to do the right thing, respect the mandate of the people and, at the same time, do what is good for the party. Perhaps, they should ensure justice, equity, and fair play across the board. I believe in party supremacy as a dedicated party man. Although the mandate of the people is sacrosanct, sometimes God’s will, God’s design, and God’s plan are what will prevail.

“My message to my supporters, which I just addressed outside, is that party unity is of utmost priority. The interest of one individual should not be placed above the interest of the party. Peace, calmness, respect for every party member, and brotherliness are what I am encouraging.”

He alleged that he won the primary election based on results from four out of the six polling wards, claiming that he secured 2,166 votes before the collation process was allegedly left incomplete by the returning officer.

Adesina thanked party members, youths, women, and the elderly who voted for him, describing their support as overwhelming and a strong vote of confidence.

He also called for unity within the APC, stressing that the party’s collective victory in future elections remained more important than personal ambition. He added that if eventually declared winner, he would focus on grassroots engagement, inclusiveness, and listening to constituents.

The aspirant further commended fellow contestants for running issue-based campaigns devoid of personal attacks.

Speaking at the event, the Director-General of the Adesina Adeyemi Kelvin Campaign Organisation, Sulaimon Adamson, said the election was conducted through the Option A4 system, which involved physical counting, adding that party members were already aware of the results because the process was open and transparent.

Adamson, however, expressed concern over the delay in announcing the official outcome but maintained that their camp recorded the highest number of votes.

Despite the concerns, he stressed that the APC remained supreme, adding that the campaign organisation would accept the final decision of the party.

“We had a massive turnout of votes in the six communities, but unfortunately for us, two communities in Orile and Itire were disrupted. We recorded massive votes in the other four communities, and our agents documented the results. But like we always say, the party is supreme. Whatever the party comes up with is what we will accept. But we know our results, and we know the results of other aspirants because we all queued openly in a straight line,” he said.

Adamson also pledged continued support for the APC’s presidential, governorship, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly candidates, regardless of who eventually emerges victorious.
