APC Primaries: Lagos APC to Probe Reps Election Petitions as Aspirants Allege Irregularities in Mainland

Chairman of the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) Primary Committee, Sheu Yipmong, has said the party is closely monitoring developments surrounding the outcome of the House of Representatives primary elections.

He, however, assured party members that the APC would set up an election petition panel to examine complaints and grievances raised by some aspirants and make appropriate recommendations.

Sheu Yipmong gave the assurance at the party’s secretariat in ACME, Ogba, while addressing journalists on the conduct of the primaries in some local governments monitored by him.

He expressed satisfaction with the large turnout of party members at various polling units, noting that it demonstrated the APC’s growing acceptance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking separately, House of Representatives aspirant for Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency, Hakeem Animashaun, appealed to the party leadership to conduct an independent probe into the events that unfolded during the primary election in Lagos Mainland.

Animashaun, who led his supporters on a peaceful protest to the party secretariat to submit a petition, called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene over alleged irregularities recorded in some areas.

The House of Representatives hopeful dissociated himself and his supporters from the alleged irregularities that occurred in several wards and demanded a free, fair, and transparent exercise.

According to him, party members were initially excited by the large turnout recorded during the exercise but were later disappointed by the way events unfolded.

He pointed out that the directive asking party members to present their membership slips alongside valid means of identification was allegedly ignored during the process.

Prince Animashaun further alleged that those who purportedly came to conduct the primaries had no visible means of identification or election materials.

Some of his supporters, including Samson Sambakiu, Kolawole Ganiyu, and Folake Ogunlade, accused officials of Lagos Mainland Local Government of perpetrating malpractices at various polling centres.

They also alleged that the primary election was disrupted by supporters of one of the contenders.

Seven aspirants, including the incumbent lawmaker, are contesting for the APC ticket for Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency.
