Lagos APC Blasts Babafemi Ojodu Over “Playing with Fire” Comment, Says Lagos is Building, Not Burning

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly condemned recent remarks by former presidential adviser, Babafemi Ojodu, describing his warning that “Lagos is playing with fire and Tinubu must put it out” as misleading and alarmist.

In a statement signed by the party’s spokesperson, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the APC said it was disappointing that someone of Ojodu’s political experience would resort to what it called “sensationalism, emotional manipulation, and half-truths” over matters he neither fully understands nor constructively engages.

“Lagos is not playing with fire,” the statement declared. “What Lagos is doing — and has always done — is govern responsibly, maintain political stability, and ensure the peaceful coexistence of its diverse population.”

The party insisted that Lagos remains a shining example of multi-ethnic cooperation and inclusive governance under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, rejecting Ojodu’s comments as an attempt to stoke division and undermine the state’s progress.

“It is regrettable that Mr. Ojodu has chosen to stoke controversy rather than offer constructive advice. His alarmist tone serves only one purpose — to insert himself into the national conversation at the expense of Lagos’ hard-won peace and progress,” Oladejo stated.

The party further described Ojodu’s position as political grandstanding disguised as concern, noting that the political structure he now criticizes helped shape his career.

Reaffirming its openness to dialogue, the Lagos APC stressed that it would not condone “careless talk that undermines our state’s stability or casts unjust aspersions on our leadership.”

The statement concluded with a call on Nigerians to support the ongoing developmental efforts in Lagos, describing President Tinubu as “a symbol of national unity, not a fireman tasked with extinguishing imaginary infernos lit by political opportunists.”

“Lagos is not burning. Lagos is building,” the statement concluded.
