Lagos 2027: Ajose Backs Party Unity, Demands Fair Process in Hamzat Endorsement Debate
A leading governorship aspirant in Lagos State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Samuel Mawuyon Ajose, has clarified his position on the recent endorsement of Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Hamzat, by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the State Executive Council, and the Governance Advisory Council (GAC).
He noted that while endorsements are permissible under the nation’s Constitution, the Electoral Act, and the party’s constitution, they must be conducted in line with the principles of fairness and transparency to prevent rancour among aspirants.
Dr. Ajose, who spoke during a live interview on ARISE TV’s The Morning Show, emphasised that he remains a loyal party member and would abide by any decision taken in the overall interest of the party.
According to him, the party leadership should have convened a meeting with all leading aspirants for the governorship ticket and clearly articulated the rationale behind backing a particular candidate, in order to secure the full support of others.
The aspirant, who was the first to pick the APC governorship nomination form in Lagos, also addressed the growing agitation for Badagry to produce the next governor of the state, describing it as both anticipated and morally justified.
The technocrat-turned-politician questioned the continued marginalisation of Badagry over the past 57 years, noting that the overwhelming support he enjoys from his constituency is rooted in his track record in business and human capital development.
He further stressed that the governorship race should not be seen as a battle, but as a contest that guarantees a level playing field for all aspirants.
Dr. Ajose expressed confidence in his ability to unlock the economic potential of Lagos State. While commending Governor Sanwo-Olu for his achievements across key sectors, he assured that he would build on existing gains and take the state to greater heights.
The governorship hopeful, who currently oversees a conglomerate employing over 300 staff, disclosed that he intends to leverage private sector expertise to actualise his development blueprint for the state.
