The Executive Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Jimoh Saliu, alongside four other local government leaders, on Sunday highlighted their administration’s achievements and discussed the prospects of local government autonomy during a live radio programme on Super 92.7FM.

The one-hour programme, Front Burner, anchored by veteran broadcaster Taiwo Olopade, brought together council executives from Apapa-Iganmu LCDA, Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Itire-Ikate LCDA, Orile-Agege LCDA, and Mainland Local Government to examine governance at the grassroots level and assess the impact of one year in office.

A major focus of the discussion was the implementation of local government autonomy, particularly whether councils receive their full statutory monthly allocations to effectively deliver democratic dividends to residents.

Speaking during the programme, Hon. Jimoh Saliu outlined key achievements of his administration across education, healthcare, security, and infrastructure, stressing that education remains a top priority.

According to the council chairman, his administration has facilitated admission for 22 students into higher institutions in Lagos, adding that the beneficiaries will also receive scholarships to support their academic pursuits.

The programme also featured contributions from listeners, with an Apapa-Iganmu resident identified as Esther commending the chairman’s commitment to education. She specifically praised the “Olugbani Summer Classes,” organised during the last long vacation for pupils in Primary Four to Six and students in Senior Secondary School One to Three, describing the initiative as impactful.

While applauding the administration’s performance, Esther appealed to the council chairman to strengthen support for persons living with disabilities.

Responding, Hon. Jimoh disclosed that no fewer than 10 visually impaired residents had been sponsored for corrective eye surgeries, with their sight successfully restored. He further revealed that his administration has maintained close collaboration with leaders of disability groups within the LCDA, ensuring that members are registered, recognised, and included in welfare and festive support programmes.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to people-centred governance, the Apapa-Iganmu chairman said effective leadership should be measured by tangible improvements in the lives of residents rather than public rhetoric.

Other participants on the programme included the Executive Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon. Dr. Seyi Jakande; the Executive Chairman of Orile-Agege LCDA, Hon. Akinola Abiodun Idowu; the Executive Chairman of Itire-Ikate LCDA, Hon. Odunayo Olufemi Daniel and the Vice Chairman of Mainland Local Government, Hon. Adewale Momoh, who represented the council chairman, Hon. Kolawole Jubril Emilagba.

The interactive session also provided residents with an opportunity to engage directly with their elected representatives, underscoring the importance of accountability, transparency, and citizen participation in grassroots governance.
