Lagos APC Deputy Chairman, Hon. Moshood Olanrewaju Mayegun announced as Oba-Elect of vacant Onikoyi stool

The Dosumu Onikoyi ruling house has announced the selection of Hon Moshood Olanrewaju Mayegun as the Oba-Elect for the vacant Onikoyi of Ikoyi and Imoba Land stool.

He was presented by Alhaji Abidemi Idris Duale at a forum well attended by members of the ruling families of Jinnadu Agbeti and Fagbemi under the Dosumu family.

Alhaji Idris Duale described the Oba-Elect as a man of high intellectual capacity, dignity and grassroot politician of high repute.

He explained that he was happy that Hon Mayegun who emerged as the Oba-Elect did not seek for it but the entire family sought after him for the position.

On his part, Alhaji Mohammed Lawal disclosed that they held several virtual meetings among Jinadu Agbeti and Fagbemi Ruling Houses before they arrived at voting to select the Oba-Elect.

According to him, those who contested for the position include: Idris Onikoyi, Taofik Ope Onikoyi, Alhaji Idowu Johnson Onikoyi, Ganiyu Onikoyi and Hon Moshood Mayegun.

Late Onikoyi, Oba Patrick Ibikunle Fafunwa died on November 19,2023.

He noted that the outcome of the votes favoured Hon Moshood Mayegun with seven while Ganiyu Onikoyi had three votes.

Alhaji Mohammed Lawal disclosed that Ganiyu Onikoyi conceeded defeat and congratulated Mayegun after the election.

In his comments, a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Abayomi Mayegun, said the process of selecting the Oba-Elect, Moshood Mayegun, was transparent and fair.

He expressed optimism that the ruling house will benefit immensely if he is accepted by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the new Onikoyi of Ikoyi and Imoba Land.

Prince Fatai Adio Lawal, who is the Olokun lshagbe of Lagos endorsed the selection of Hon Moshood Mayegun as the Oba-Elect.

Responding, the Oba-Elect, Hon Moshood Olanrewaju Mayegun said he accepted the opportunity given to him to serve the ruling house.

He said the journey was not an easy task but made possible by God and family members who believed in him.

The Oba-Elect promised never to disappoint them assuring that no one would be left behind.

“It is not a personal property of him but just chosen as the custodian of the stool. I will do everything possible to carry the Dosumu-Onikoyi along. I will extend the hands of fellowship to all”.

He said in every contest, a winner must emerge adding two or more persons cannot be crowned at the same time.

Present at the presentation of the Oba-Elect were family members from Abari, Jabita, Agbeti, Omolade Fagbemi, Adamo Fagbemi and Amusa Fagbemi sections of Dosunmu Ruling House.

The stool of Onikoyi of Ikoyi and Imoba Land became vacant after Oba Patrick Ibikunle Fafunwa joined his ancestors on November 19, 2023.
