APC primaries: TPA petitions national chairman, demands urgent resolution of election petitions, official results

A group, Turning Point Agenda, TPA has called on the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the National Working Committee, NWC , to urgently address several complaints that arose in the aftermath of the primary elections of the party held across the country as well as officially declare results of the primaries.

In a letter addressed to the national chairman of the party by the National Coordinator, Turning Point Agenda, Paul Oluwaseun Mashote titled ‘ Urgent need for transparent, lawful and authoritative resolution of primary election petitions and official declaration of results,’ Paul noted that in spite of assurance from the APC chairman that all petitions regarding the primary would be given urgent consideration, various unofficial results of the primaries are been published in the media and capable of undermining the credibility of the primaries.

“On Sunday, 24th May 2026, during your appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, you unequivocally assured Party members and the Nigerian public that all petitions submitted by aggrieved aspirants would be given due and urgent consideration by the National Working Committee (NWC) and that only the appropriate National Directorate of the Party is empowered to make valid and binding declarations of the outcomes of the primaries.

This assurance was timely, reassuring, and reflective of the Party’s commitment to due process, internal democracy, and institutional discipline.

However, in the days following that assurance, there has been widespread circulation of purported “final results” across various media platforms, notably publications attributed to “the Nation’s Newspaper”. These reports, as you rightly clarified, do not constitute official declarations of the Party and have the potential to mislead the public, inflame tensions, and undermine the credibility of the Party’s internal processes,” the letter reads.

“The premature dissemination of unofficial results especially in a politically sensitive environment creates confusion, breeds distrust, and heightens the risk of avoidable conflict among supporters of aspirants. In several constituencies, tensions are already rising as supporters react to these speculative publications, some of which directly contradict the realities observed at the polling and collation levels, a case in point is Lagos State House of Assembly, Ikorodu Constituency 1.

Of particular concern is the fact that petitions and appeals arising from the primaries are yet to be fully determined by the NWC as provided for under the Party’s guidelines. Any attempt, whether direct or implied, to treat unverified or unofficial publications as final outcomes before the exhaustion of the Party’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms, would not only be procedurally flawed but could also erode confidence in the Party’s commitment to fairness and justice.”

Paul urged the leadership of the APC to take decisive and visible steps to urgently address the issues.

“ Expedite the hearing and determination of all pending petitions and appeals submitted by aggrieved aspirants, in line with the assurances already given and the provisions of the Party’s guidelines.
Publicly reaffirm and enforce the position that only the designated National Directorate of the APC is authorized to announce final and binding results of the primary elections. Issue an official communication clarifying the status of the process, thereby discouraging reliance on speculative media reports and restoring confidence among Party members and stakeholders. Ensure that the eventual declaration of results reflects due process, transparency, and verifiable outcomes, so that all aspirants and their supporters can accept the results in good faith.”

It added: “ The strength of our party lies not only in its electoral victories but in the credibility of its internal processes. At a time when public trust in democratic institutions is under constant scrutiny, the APC must continue to set the standard for internal democracy, discipline, and respect for due process.

The current moment presents an opportunity for the Party to reinforce these values by acting decisively, transparently, and in strict accordance with its own rules and procedures.

I respectfully urge the National Working Committee, under your leadership, to treat this matter with the urgency it deserves, in order to forestall avoidable unrest, preserve Party unity, and protect the integrity of the APC ahead of the forthcoming general elections.”
