The Lagos State Government is set to host the 10th anniversary edition of the iconic #Greater Lagos Countdown, scheduled to hold from Tuesday, 30th December – Wednesday, 31st December, 2025, with daily activities from 7:00 p.m. at different locations across the State.
The landmark celebration, themed “Legends of Afrobeats,” is dedicated to honouring the pioneers whose creativity and influence laid the foundation for Nigeria’s globally acclaimed music genre.

Speaking ahead of the event, the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka described the 10th anniversary as a defining cultural milestone for Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole. She disclosed that the end-of-year celebration will simultaneously take place across six strategic locations in the State.
The designated venues, according to her, are: Ikorodu: Ikorodu Town Hall, Ikeja: Agege Stadium, Badagry: Badagry Grammar School, Epe: Epe Recreation Centre, Lagos Island: Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), and Ajegunle: Nathaniel Idowu Football Pitch, Oregẹ.
Her words, “The #Greater Lagos Countdown has evolved beyond a New Year’s Eve celebration into a cultural movement that embodies the spirit, creativity, and resilience of Lagosians. This 10th anniversary is particularly significant, and through the theme ‘Legends of Afrobeats,’ we are deliberately celebrating the icons who shaped our music and projected Nigeria’s cultural identity to the world.”

Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka emphasised that Afrobeats remains one of Nigeria’s strongest cultural exports, with Lagos firmly established as its heartbeat. She noted that the 2025/2026 #Greater Lagos Countdown aligns with the State Government’s broader vision of positioning Lagos as Africa’s leading creative, entertainment, and tourism destination.
“From tourism to arts and entertainment, Lagos continues to set the pace. This celebration speaks to legacy, continuity, and inspiration for the next generation of creatives,” she added.
Organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, the #Greater Lagos Countdown has consistently served as a vibrant platform for cultural expression, entertainment, youth engagement, and economic stimulation, attracting thousands of residents and visitors annually.
The 10th anniversary edition promises electrifying performances, rich cultural showcases, and a world-class countdown experience that reflects Lagos’ reputation as a global city of excellence, innovation, and entertainment.
