Yaba Residents Commend LASIEC for Smooth Conduct of Local Government Elections

Residents of Yaba LCDA in the just-concluded Local Government Elections in Lagos State have commended the State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) for the smooth conduct of the exercise in the area.

They said that the timely arrival of electoral officials with materials at most of the polling units in the area gave room for eligible voters to exercise their franchise.

Some of the wards that witnessed a relatively good turnout in Yaba LCDA include Ward A – Adekunle; Ward B – Makoko; Ward C – Oyadiran Estate; and Ward D – Abule Oja.

Among the eligible voters who shared their experiences after casting their ballots, Mrs. Nike Adeyanju and Alhaji Wasiu Akanni stressed the need for the outcome of the exercise to reflect the wish of the majority of the people.

While casting his ballot at Ward 1 in Abule Ijesha, the chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Yaba LCDA, Dr. Adebayo Adefuye, who expressed optimism about victory, noted that he was delighted with the peaceful conduct of residents during the election.

He believes that the financial autonomy granted to local governments under the leadership of President Tinubu will fast-track socio-economic development and encourage healthy rivalry among them.

The chairmanship hopeful also told newsmen that members of the party went into the election as one united family, leaving behind the disagreements that followed the party’s primary election.

Following the restriction order placed by the police between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m., most highways and roads in the metropolis were deserted, except in a few instances where youths converted the roads into makeshift football fields.

Fifteen out of the nineteen registered political parties in the country took part in the election, which was held in the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas of the state.
