Man City Win Club World Cup To Record Fifth Trophy In 2023
Manchester City have defeated Fluminense to win the Club World Cup for the first time, making it their fifth trophies to end year 2023.
Gatekeepers News reports that City’s 4-0 victory in Jeddah on Friday, extended European clubs’ domination of the competition since 2012.
Julian Alvarez opened the scoring line in the first minute, and this was followed by Nino’s first-half own goal which quashed the Brazilians’ dreams of an upset.
Phil Foden and Alvarez rounded off the scoring in the final 20 minutes.
Although, City’s poor Premier League performance before flying out to Saudi Arabia had raised Fluminense hopes, Pep Guardiola’s men displayed their determination to record their fifth trophy of the year.
After clinching the treble of the club’s first ever Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup last season, City also lifted the UEFA Super Cup for the first time in August.
Guardiola similarly made history as the first coach to lift the Club World Cup on four occasions with three different clubs.
