Lagos residents travelling for Yuletide celebrations commends Fed Govt for 50% discount introduced on inter state trips
Some residents of Lagos who have started travelling for the Yuletide celebrations have commended the Federal Government for the discount introduced on inter state trips.
The fifty percent discount which kicked off yesterday Decenber 21st and to end January 4th was announced by the Chairman of the Inter Ministerial Committee on Presidential Intervention and the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Mr Dele Alake during a Media Briefing at the State House, Abuja.
Our correspondents who captured the views of some of the travellers to Abuja, Port Harcourt, Katsina, Akure, Delta, Borno, and Benin from different Inter State parks at Iddo, Jibowu, Yaba, Berger and Egbeda said it was that of jolly mood.
They however said that the information on the initiative should have come early enough for proper planning of their journey for the Yuletide season.
Some of the travellers, Mrs Bolanle Adejobi, Haruna Mohammed and Okechukwu Nweke appealed to President Tinubu to do all within his capacity to reduce the high level of hunger and poverty in the country.
They also stressed the need for government to beef up security on major highways nationwide to stop the wave of kidnap for ransom or armed robbery attacks on innocent citizens.
While addressing the Media on Wednesday, Mr Dele Alake expalined that the Tinubu-led government initiated the policy to redude the effect of rising inter-state transportation fares across the country.
He believes the policy will further cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal on Nigerians.
The rebate covered commercial road and rail transportation across 28 luxury bus routes and three railway corridors nationwide.
According to Alake, the President also okayed zero fare for train commutters along Lagos-Ibadan, Abuja-Kaduna and Warri-Itakpe corridors within the same period.
