Lagosians should expect more repairs on Third Mainland Bridge – GM LSPWC, Engr. Somide
Following maintenance operations carried out on critical sections of the Third Mainland Bridge on Sunday 20th April 2023, Lagos State Public Works Corporation has assured members of the public of the governments’ commitment to addressing pockets of potholes on other sections of the road.
While speaking on the success of work done on the bridge on Sunday, the General Manager of the Corporation, Engr. Lateef Somide noted that LSPWC had to move in to repair the inbound and outbound sections of the bridge along the Unilag axis due to vehicular tailback and danger posed by the level of damage to motorists.
According to the General manager, Lagos State Public Works Corporation is not unaware of the fact that the third mainland bridge falls under the jurisdiction of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency, but the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu directed the Corporation to address the
critical sections of the road in line with his determination not to give Lagosians excuses over anything capable of undermining safety and free flow of persons and goods.
‘’You will recall that LSPWC, on the directive of Mr. Governor carried out similar operation on the bridge in August 2022 to reduce the pain being experienced by Lagosians’’ He said.
The corporation’s helmsman said further that there is a synergy between the Lagos State Government and Federal Agencies on efficient approaches to swiftly tackle road defects adding that ‘’if need be, LSPWC may still carry out maintenance activities on other sections of the road while FERMA is putting finishing touches to its plans for a comprehensive maintenance work’’
Engr. Somide said that his Agency chose to fix the third mainland bridge between 9:00am and 4:00pm on Sunday when traffic is usually lighter on the corridor. This, he said is in line with the Corporation’s
sensitivity to minimizing inconvenience on road users whenever its men are on the road.
He assured road users in parts of Lagos yet to be attended to by his men that it would soon be their turn as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has continued to support the Agency in the bid to sustain the goal of a Lagos where all roads are motorable all year round.
