MGDLI urges Muslims to participate in landmark programme for stronger Mosques, devt

The Mosque Guidance and Development Lagos Initiative (MGDLI) has called on Muslims across Lagos State to actively participate in its forthcoming three-day anniversary programme, describing the event as a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of stronger mosques and a more vibrant Muslim community.

The organisation extended the invitation to Imams, mosque administrators, Islamic scholars, youth groups, Muslim professionals, community leaders and all members of the Ummah to attend and benefit from the activities lined up for the anniversary celebration.

The programme, scheduled for October 30 to November 1, 2026, will be held at the Lagos State First Secretariat Mosque Hall (Olanike Hall), Shamsi Adisa Thomas Central Mosque, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

MGDLI said broad participation by Muslims is essential to achieving the collective goal of building mosques that are better managed, cleaner, safer and more responsive to the needs of worshippers and their communities.

“The responsibility of developing our mosques does not rest solely on Imams and mosque committees. Every Muslim has a role to play in building institutions that reflect the values of Islam, accountability, cleanliness and service to humanity,” the organisation stated.

The anniversary programme will feature special prayers during the Jumu’ah service, health outreach activities, sanitation and hygiene training, first-aid sensitisation, a keynote lecture and networking sessions.

According to MGDLI, the event presents an opportunity for members of the Ummah to gain valuable knowledge, exchange ideas and support efforts aimed at improving mosque administration and community welfare.

The organisation said the programme aligns with Islamic teachings that promote cleanliness, good governance, communal responsibility and mutual support.

“This gathering is not merely an anniversary celebration; it is a call to action for Muslims to work collectively towards building stronger institutions and healthier communities,” MGDLI said.

The initiative also appealed to philanthropists, Islamic organisations, corporate bodies and community stakeholders to support the programme and partner in future mosque development projects.

Participants will also benefit from a medical outreach organised in collaboration with Lagos State University Teaching Hospital Muslim Nurse Forum, offering free health checks, blood pressure and blood sugar screening, counselling and referrals.

“We invite every member of the Ummah to be part of this transformative programme. Together, we can build better and cleaner mosques, we can build stronger communities and a brighter future for coming generations,” MGDLI added.
