Breaking News! Tinubu Urges APC Members to Maintain Peace Where Consensus Fails

President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has appealed to party members and aspirants to embrace peace, fairness, and sportsmanship in areas where consensus arrangements fail ahead of the party’s primaries.

Tinubu made the appeal in a press statement issued ahead of the commencement of the APC primary elections, which begin with the House of Representatives primaries and end with the presidential primary scheduled for May 25, 2026.

The President acknowledged ongoing efforts by party leaders to produce consensus candidates across different levels, describing the move as commendable and beneficial to party unity.

However, he stressed that where consensus could not be achieved, party members must approach the primaries with maturity and unity of purpose.

“Where consensus fails, I urge us all to go into the primaries as brothers and sisters,” Tinubu stated.

He warned against rancorous conduct and divisive politics capable of weakening the party, noting that elections should not be treated as a do-or-die affair.

According to him, all aspirants and delegates must conduct themselves peacefully and accept the outcome of the exercise in good faith.

“In every contest, there will be a winner and a loser. I urge the winners not to gloat in victory and the losers to show sportsmanship by taking things in their stride and preparing for another time,” he said.

Tinubu added that the APC’s political opponents were waiting to exploit internal disagreements within the party, urging members not to give them such an opportunity.

The President also advised winners and party leaders at all levels to reconcile aggrieved aspirants by extending olive branches after the primaries.

He further directed governors, party officials, and stakeholders supervising the exercise to ensure fairness and provide equal opportunities for all contestants.

Tinubu reiterated the need for increased participation of women and youths in the political process, while also charging security agencies to remain neutral and professional during the primaries.

He expressed confidence that the APC would emerge stronger and more united after the exercise ahead of the general elections.
