SDP Dismisses Alleged Secretariat Break-in as Falsehood, Accuses Suspended Members of Propaganda

The leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has debunked claims circulating in the media that some of its national leaders and state chairmen were arrested for allegedly “burgling” the party’s national secretariat.

The party described the report, allegedly authored by Dr. Olu Agunloye, as “malicious propaganda” engineered by suspended members and their external sponsors.

In a strongly worded counter-statement released on Monday by Amb. Judith Shuibu, the National Publicity Secretary of the SDP, the party described the claims as “fiction-laced,” “baseless,” and a desperate attempt to smear the reputation of loyal party leaders.

“No such incident took place,” the statement read. “None of our committed party leaders were involved in any unlawful act whatsoever. We are alive, free, focused, and more determined than ever in our mission to rescue and reposition the SDP for true democratic service.”

The party emphasized that the authors of the misleading statement, including Dr. Agunloye, no longer have any legitimate standing within the SDP, describing them as “suspended individuals” from a “dissolved and now-defunct faction” of the party.

According to the statement, the party leadership under Comr. Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, which is recognized by both the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), remains the only authoritative body empowered to speak and act on behalf of the SDP.

“They have lost legitimacy, they have lost INEC recognition, and worst of all, they have lost the moral right to speak for the Social Democratic Party,” Shuibu said. “Their actions have exposed them for who they truly are – political merchants who seek to turn the SDP into a transaction tool for their selfish ambitions. But we say, never again!”

The SDP urged its members and supporters across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to remain calm and focused, while calling on the media and the public to disregard any further statements issued by Dr. Agunloye or his allies.

The party also warned media outlets to exercise due diligence before publishing politically motivated statements and urged security agencies to maintain professionalism and neutrality in the face of internal political disputes.

Concluding the statement, the party reaffirmed its commitment to internal reform and the protection of its founding ideals.

“The current leadership of the SDP under Comr. Adamu Abubakar Modibbo is not only legitimate but committed to rebuilding this party into a force for genuine social justice, equity, and good governance. We will not relent, we will not break, and we shall not be moved,” the party declared.
