…As She Commissions NYSC Digital Museum and Television Studio

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has commissioned the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Digital Museum of Dynamic History and Television Studio.

The facilities, located within the NYSC Directorate Headquarters, represent, according to the First Lady, a visionary step towards preserving the extraordinary legacy of the NYSC Scheme, which has spanned over fifty (50) years. She emphasized the significant role the scheme has played in Nigeria’s history.

“This event highlights the significant contributions of the NYSC since its establishment in 1973, particularly its pivotal role in fostering patriotism, promoting national unity, and encouraging service among Nigerian youth,” she said.

“The NYSC Scheme, in its over 50 years of existence, has served as a platform for national development and integration, bridging the gap between youth potential and community needs,” Senator Tinubu added.

The First Lady commended Nigerian youth, describing them as an inspiration admired globally.

“The Nigerian youth embody an indomitable spirit that the world admires – a spirit of resilience, innovation, and boundless energy. This selfless and enduring commitment to the nation is perfectly captured in the words of the NYSC Anthem: ‘Under the sun or in the rain, with dedication and selflessness.’ Whether facing challenges or opportunities, Nigerian youth rise with unshakable determination, proving that their strength lies in unity and the promise of a brighter tomorrow for our nation. I celebrate you all,” she remarked.

Senator Tinubu noted that the Digital Museum not only showcases the innovativeness and creativity of Nigerian youth but also highlights the various historical landmarks of the scheme. She described the facility as a tool for civic education and the inculcation of national values.

“This digital museum represents the various interventions of NYSC members, who through their selfless service, have left indelible marks across diverse sectors – pioneering innovations in science and technology, advancing agricultural development, improving healthcare delivery, championing human rights, and fostering community service.”

She further lauded the NYSC for embracing technology, noting that the initiative aligns with global best practices.

“By embracing technology in this initiative, the NYSC ensures that the lessons and legacy of the scheme are accessible to all. This museum will serve as a reminder of the immense potential and possibilities within the Nigerian youth, united in purpose and enriched by Nigeria’s diversity. History is the cornerstone of our national development. When we study the past, we can better understand the present and forge new paths for the future,” she concluded.

In his remarks, the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, applauded the First Lady for her contributions to youth development, particularly through her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).

He described Nigerian youth as committed and hardworking, encouraging them to carry on the NYSC legacy and conduct research to further enhance the facility and promote national development.

The Minister highlighted the determination of the NYSC leadership in bringing the project to fruition, noting that the facilities reflect the scheme’s alignment with global trends.

“This is a total success. This facility will serve as a virtuous symbol of the history, innovation, and contributions of our youth over the years,” he stated.

The Director General of the NYSC, Brig. Gen. YD Ahmed, noted that the Museum and Television Studio are not merely repositories of artifacts but dynamic chronicles of Nigeria’s shared history, values, and aspirations as a nation.

He emphasized that the museum showcases the rich legacy of the NYSC and Nigeria as a whole.

A major highlight of the event was the live interview granted to the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in the newly commissioned TV studio.
