IKEJA LG INTENSIFIES REVENUE MOBILISATION IN ONILEKERE

The Ikeja Local Government on Tuesday, 22nd September 2026, intensified its revenue mobilisation and sensitisation exercise across Onilekere, as the Council continues its drive to strengthen internally generated revenue and promote compliance among businesses and other revenue-paying residents.

The exercise, which formed part of the Council’s ongoing engagement with the business community, focused on direct interaction with business owners and operators, verification of revenue documentation and sensitisation on their statutory obligations.

Leading the exercise was the Supervisor for Environment, Hon. Edward Aragbonfoh, who represented the Executive Chairman, alongside members of the Legislative Council, NULGE Secretary, Comrade Opeyemi Akinleye, Management and staff of the Local Government.

The team visited various business premises, offices, shops, and warehouses within Onilekere, where officials engaged operators on applicable assessments, levies and other approved revenue obligations. Relevant documents and payment records were also examined, while necessary clarifications were provided to businesses to facilitate compliance and regularisation where required.

Speaking during the exercise, the Council reiterated that its revenue mobilisation strategy goes beyond collection, stressing the importance of sustained engagement, public awareness and voluntary compliance. The approach is aimed at building a more transparent and cooperative relationship between the Local Government and the business community.

The Council further urged business owners, operators and residents in Onilekere to cooperate with revenue officials and fulfil their legitimate obligations, noting that improved revenue mobilisation remains essential to strengthening the capacity of the Local Government to deliver quality services and implement developmental programmes for residents.

The Onilekere exercise is part of the broader revenue mobilisation efforts of the Ikeja Local Government, with similar engagements expected to continue across other communities and business districts within the Local Government.
