FOLASHADE AMBROSE CELEBRATES STEPHANIE BUSARI CONTRIBUTIONS TO MEDIA, NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Lagos State Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment (MCCTI), Folashade Ambrose has commended Stephanie Busari for her great impact at using the media to influence the society and project positive narratives for Africa.

Ambrose stated this at the celebration of Busari’s 25 transformative years in journalism and 16 years of profound impact at CNN held at JK Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and Civilisation, Lagos recently.

Describing the event as a celebration of an extraordinary milestone in the life of a remarkable journalist, an inspiring leader, and a true beacon of excellence in the media industry, the Commissioner described Stephanie’s journey through the ever-evolving landscape of journalism as nothing short of inspirational.

Her words: “As the head of CNN’s Nigeria bureau, you have not only pioneered the network’s first digital and multiplatform office but have also carved a niche for yourself as a storyteller who passionately amplified the voices of Africa’s changemakers and innovators. Your commitment to crafting a new narrative for African storytelling has not only shaped perceptions but has inspired countless individuals, both within and outside our borders.

“The remarkable feat of obtaining the ‘proof of life’ video of the missing Chibok schoolgirls in April 2016 was a testament to your unwavering tenacity and journalistic integrity. This significant breakthrough catalysed negotiations with Boko Haram, ultimately leading to the release of over 100 kidnapped schoolgirls. Your work exemplified the profound impact that journalism can have on real lives—and for that, you deserve every commendation and recognition.”

The Commissioner described her accolades, which include the prestigious Peabody Award for coverage of the missing Nigerian schoolgirls and the Hollywood Gracie Award for her relentless pursuit of truth, as a reflection of the high standards she set not only for herself but for the entire media profession, noting her recognition as one of the Most Influential People of African Descent and selection as a Yale University World Fellow as testaments to her exceptional contributions to journalism and unwavering commitment to excellence.

“As we gather to honour your achievements, let us also reflect on the essence of your work: the power of storytelling. You have shown us that journalism is not just about reporting facts; it is about weaving stories that resonate, empower, and inspire change. Your dedication to showcasing the resilience and brilliance of Africa is a beacon of hope that encourages all of us to strive for a narrative that uplifts and unites,” she said.

Congratulating Busari on behalf of the Ministry of Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade, and Investment, and indeed on behalf of all those who have been touched by her work, the Commissioner extended heartfelt congratulations on the momentous occasion of the celebration and prayed for strength to inspire the next generation of journalists and storytellers, as she continues to illuminate the path for those who dare to dream.
