LASG SAYS ITS DOORS ARE OPEN TO INITIATIVES ENSURING FOOD SECURITY; WELCOMES M-AGRIC APP BY GLOBACOM
The Lagos State Government has reiterated its openness to initiatives and ideas aimed at creating a conducive environment for all categories of farmers, with a focus on achieving food security in the state.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to providing logistics support for those involved in agricultural value chains to help reduce the cost of food items across the metropolis.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, stated this during the presentation of prizes and awards to customers of the M-Agric App, a service developed by telecommunications giant, Globacom.
She highlighted that such technology-driven support offers a platform for seamless education and guidance for farmers, enabling better yields while addressing the challenges associated with traffic bottlenecks that hinder physical outreach to farmers.
The M-Agric (Mobile Agriculture) App is a value-added service on the Globacom network that provides subscribers with tips and step-by-step guidance to venture into agribusinesses across various value chains such as poultry, fishery, snail farming, and crop production.
Ms. Olusanya explained that subscribers to the app, with a minimum contribution of ₦500, stand to benefit from rewards of up to ₦1,000,000, as well as farm inputs, including fertilizers. She added that the initiative aims to encourage more people to venture into agriculture.
She further noted that the ministry’s extension officers are insufficient to meet the needs of the state’s farmers, making the app an essential tool to complement government efforts in this regard.
The event also recognized and rewarded some of the top subscribers of the M-Agric App.
Speaking at the event, the Head of Value-Added Services at Globacom, Mr. Mojeed Aluko, said the initiative supports the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems’ efforts to ensure no one is left behind.
He added that the app was designed to be user-friendly, ensuring farmers and users can easily navigate it without difficulty.
