OEQA HOLDS COLLABORATIVE TECHNICAL COMMITTEE QUARTERLY MEETING

… Focuses on Transforming Schools into Hubs of Excellence

The Lagos State Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) on Monday held its Collaborative Technical Committee Quarterly Meeting with technical partners from over 25 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) at its Headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja.

The Coordinating Director of OEQA, Mr. Remi Abdul, in his keynote address, reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to improving education standards by transforming schools below the tertiary level into hubs of excellence that nurture the potential of every learner.

“This mission is as urgent as it is noble, and I am deeply grateful for the expertise, passion, and commitment that each of you brings to this table”, Abdul remarked.

Highlighting the origins of the initiative, Mr. Abdul credited the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun for spearheading the idea of fostering synergy among MDAs. By assembling Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from diverse fields relevant to education, the committee aims to address critical challenges affecting schools and improve learning outcomes.

“This meeting serves as a platform to reflect on our progress, tackle unresolved challenges, and lay the foundation for future achievements”, Abdul stated.

He further noted that findings from the Whole School Evaluation, Monitoring, and Investigation reports underscore the importance of collaboration, stating that issues such as student welfare, safety, infrastructure, and curriculum development require a collective response driven by technical expertise and innovative solutions.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Director of Planning in the Planning,Research and Statistics Department (OEQA), Mr. Hakeem Kehinde Idowu, described the meeting as a celebration of partnership and shared purpose. He noted that the collective efforts of this committee ensured that every child in Lagos State benefits from quality education and a supportive learning environment.

He praised the dedication of representatives of MDAs for their contributions to creating a holistic and integrated evaluation framework for schools.

The Director of Research in the Planning,Research and Statistics Department (OEQA), Mrs. Evelyn Pelemo, during her presentation, titled: “Enhancing Collaboration with MDAs Towards a Robust Education System”, listed some of the major mandates of OEQA which include Monitoring and Ensuring Standards in all Schools below Tertiary Level, Development of a Statewide and Harmonious School Calendar in collaboration with stakeholders, Ensuring that every child in the school receives qualitative education through collaboration with other stakeholders, Quality Assurance Evaluation of Public and Private Education institutions including the review and amendment of the school curriculum with collaboration of all stakeholders amongst others.

Pelemo stated further that the key areas of collaboration with other MDAs in the recent past includes Safeguarding, Child protection, monitoring and investigation, school site and approval inspection, training, health and education quality improvement.

The meeting brought together representatives from over 25 MDAs, categorised into sectors such as health, environment, safety, safeguarding and child protection, building, and fire safety.

Their technical expertise continues to drive the shared vision of transforming Lagos schools into models of excellence.

Present at the Collaborative Technical Committee Quarterly Meeting were the six Coordinating Directors from the six Education Districts and also the OEQA Head of Departments.
