Partial collapsed 3-storey Balcony Kills 300 level student of Unilorin In Lagos Island, three others sustained injuries

A 23 year-old student of University of Ilorin was on Tuesday afternoon met his untimely death at Alli Street, Lagos Island when the balcony of a 3-storey building collapsed on him.

An aged woman and two other traders at the ground floor of the building were also affected but have been treated.

The collapsed balcony which occurred at about 12.30pm was learnt to have caved out after the early morning rainfall in Lagos Island.

The Vice Chairman of Obadina CDA, Comrade Sanni Nurudeen who spoke with our correspondent revealed that the deceased met his untimely death when he was on errand by his father.

According to him, “The boy was a 300-level student of Unilorin was going to Anikantamo to buy woods for his father who is a carpenter when the 1st floor balcony of the building collapsed and killed him on the spot”.

“An aged woman who sell chinchin under the building and two other Igbo traders also sustained vital injuries but have be treated by the Lagos State Mobile Ambulance that came immediately after the incident”.

He also revealed that the 1st floor of the building can no longer stay, while he and others who went to inspect the place were afraid to climb the staircase to other floors so as not to be caught inside if it caved in.

Our correspondent met a team of Police, CDA Chairmen of Pashi/Willoughby, Obadina, Olosun, Fire service men, LNSC officials, CBD officers, LASAMBUS and well wishers who provided security and are assisting the shops and stores owners to pack their belongings out of the building.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Building Control officials have started marking some buildings along Alli Street for necessary text, so as to prevent similar occurrence.

Efforts to get the parents of the deceased proved abortive as a source disclosed that they have taken the remains of their son to unknown destination for burial.
