Lawmaker solicits support for President Tinubu to curb rising hunger and poverty in the country

A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Omolara Oyekan-Olumegbon, has appealed to well-meaning and spirited Nigerians to rally around President Bola Tinubu in the ongoing efforts to reduce the high levels of hunger and poverty in the country.

She believes that finding a solution to the current economic crisis should not be left for the government alone to solve.

The lawmaker, representing Lagos Island Constituency 1, made these remarks during the second phase of the highly subsidized sale of food items in conjunction with the Queen Mother Organisation.

Hon. Omolara Oyekan-Olumegbon also commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the Ounje Eko Sunday Market, as well as the palliative distributed to residents across local governments and LCDAs yesterday.

She stated that the initiative also aims to complement efforts by the President and the state in improving the wellbeing of the people in her Constituency.

She described the Food Bank Market Hub as one of the promises made during her electioneering campaign, while assuring that Information Technology training would soon be organized for the unemployed and young graduates in the area.

According to her, the subsidized food market hub is coming at the right time, with Christians celebrating Easter and their Muslim counterparts about to mark Eid-el-Fitri.

She assured the residents of plans to continue with the initiative on a regular basis, adding that those who do not benefit now will in subsequent editions.

On his part, the APC Chairman in Ward B1, Lagos Island, Alhaji Fatai Akanni, commended lawmakers from the area for their quick response to the needs of the people at the grassroots level.

Some beneficiaries who applauded the initiative called for continuity until the high cost of food items becomes affordable for the masses.

Items purchased at the second subsidized Food Bank Market Hub, tagged Senator Oluremi Tinubu Food Bank, held at the Onola playing ground in Lagos Island, include rice, beans, garri, palm oil, eggs, live chickens, while onions, sugar, and pepper were given out free.
