President Tinubu commends immediate past Minister for Works and Housing, Fashola for his commitments to a Nigeria that works for all

President Bola Tinubu has commended the immediate past Minister for Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola for his commitments and passion towards ensuring a Nigeria that works for all.

He believes that the latest contribution by Fashola in writing a book will impact immensely on policy formulation and decision making in government.

The President made these remarks in a message to the public presentation of the Book titled Nigerian Public Discourse; the interplay of empirical evidence and hyperbole written by Babatunde Fashola held at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, the President said the former Minister devoted his life as a public servant to solving different emerging problems.

He said that it was heartwarming that the former Lagos State Governor had set out to address the challenges with inaccurate data, facts and figures with the book.

President Tinubu disclosed that the former Minister in his usual style had approached the assignment with abundant scholarly rigour with worth of experience and patriotism to critical matter that was long ignored.

He said further that the enlightenment of the citizens should be based on the truth adding that we now live in the world where some says is post truth where nothing is real.

President Tinubu insists that those in the leadership positions have obligations to engage in evidence-based discourse and data reliance in decision making.

On his part, the latest Publisher, Babatunde Fashola reiterated calls for a reverse in the demand for yearly payment of House rents to a more convenient arrangement for the people.

He thanked the former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Adeyemi Ikuforiji and his colleagues for signing the House Rent law in the state.

Fashola urged Speakers of other state Houses of Assembly to work together in order to have a unified House Rent law nationwide.

Making refence to the minimum wage committee recently set up, the former Minister declared that it was until when we realised the difrerennce between wages and salary that the controversy could be laid to rest.

According to him, the Book was to provoke serious conversation about the country adding readers will find every bit about them in the Book.

Fashola who thanked family members and friends for their sacrifices to him to render service to the nation said the Book reflects outtput of his twenty one years in public service.

The former Minister noted that he was glad to share his experience of self inflicted literary adventure
adding he was happy to join the league of Publisher in the country and the globe.

One of the Speakers at the event, Prof Anthony Kila was of the view that people speculate when they don’t have basic knowledge about things and happenings around them.

He disclosed that he had set up initiative to encourage Nigerians to read and know more about issues.

While reviewing 16 sixteen chapters and 218 page Book, Mr Opeyemi Agbaje said the Author dealt with lack of contextual understanding of issues in the county.

According to him, the former Minister was challenged over ack of quality Data to plan for socio-economic development of the country.

He said the Media should ensure they play a critical role in ensuring that events are reported based on facts and figures.

According to the reviewer, another chapter in the Book speaks to the different corruption acts that are most times taken for granted by the people.

The Publisher of the Book from Quramo Publishing, Gbemi Sasore disclosed that they are committed to helping people to tell their story.

Sasore disclosed that she was proud to have assisted in the publication of the book and fell in love because it addresses various national subjects for the good of the nation.

She noted that Quramo Publishers helps in translating ideas into reality and congratulated the Author for the depth display of knowledge in the works.

Some of the dignitaries at the event includes the State Deputy Governor, Dr Kadri Hamzat, former Governors of Osun, Ekiti, Rivers, Chief Bisi Akande, Niyi Adebayo, Rotimi Amaechi, Rauf Aregbesola, Minister for Interior, Olubunmi Ojo, the Oniru of Iru Kingdom, Oba Gbolahan Lawal, Onisabe of Igbobi-Sabe, Oba Owolabi Adeniyi and several colleagues when he served as Lagos State Governor.
