FCT Minister, Wike vows to step on toes to clean and return Abuja masterplan
The newly sworn in Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has declared that he is ready to step on toes of the high and mighty in order to clean up and return the FCT to its original masterplan.
Equally, the Minister assured of improved security network in the FCT while promising a tough times for men of the underworld and hoodlum.
Mr Nyesom Wike read this riot act at his first official engagement while unveilling his short, medium and long term plans to newsmen at the conference room of the Ministry in Abuja.
Accompanied by the Minister of State for the FCT and other top government officials, the Minister vowed to end indiscriminate setting up of markets in and around Abuja in violations of the laws.
According to him, some hawkers on the streets of the FCT serve as informants to men of the underworld and release information on innocent members of the public for attacks by armed robbers.
He said further and i quote” i will return Abuja master plan back as those who have taken over the Green Areas and Parks would have their buildings demolished. Lands allocated and not developed would have their Certificate of Occupancies revoked for public use”. End of quote.
The former Rivers Governor noted that it will no longer be business as usual adding people can’t buy land for a cheaper rate and want to keep and sell at higher rate without developing them for years.
He explained that abandoned buildings in Maitama and Asokoro now serving as save heaven for hoodlums would be taken over by the federal government.
The FCT Minister who disclosed that he cannot afford to disappoint Mr President promised to discuss with herders who graze their animals within the city saying such practice deface the beauty of the seat of power.
Speaking on Motorcycle operators and Keke NAPEP who have taken over the streets of Abuja, the Minister said he will not render them jobless but work out alternatives for them.
He lamented over the deplorable conditions of environments as well as darkness in the FCT which he said made it convenient for robbers to terrorise the residents.
According to Wike, all efforts would be geared towards developing the suburb to decongest the main city promising not to abandon any project uncompleted during his tenure.
