FUEL SUBSIDY REMOVAL: ORIADE COUNCIL CHAIR APPROVES CASH PALLIATIVES FOR WORKERS, RESIDENTS
To ameliorate the effects of removal of fuel subsidy, the Executive Chairman of Oriade Local Council Development Area, Lagos, Southwest, Nigeria has approved payment of cash palliative for all civil servants and vulnerable residents in the council area
The council,in a statement obtained from the department of Finance and Supply on Thursday,30th November,2023 stated that payment of the cash palliative to the workers, pensionable and non-pensionable had commenced since August 2023 and will continue till January, 2024.
According to the statement, the palliative includes,10,000 naira cash for each pensionable staff and 5,000 naira cash for each non-pensionable staff, for 6 months (August 2023- January 2024).
The statement added that, the cash palliative will enable workers to cope with me economic shocks occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government.
Corroborating the statement in her office, the council chairman,Hon Akinlola-Hassan stated that, her commitment and passion for the wellbeing of the good people of Oriade council,formed the basis for provision of the cash palliative to the workers.
She disclosed further that, she has just approved the disbursement of 25 million naira cash palliative to 1000 vulnerable residents, across the seven wards of the council this December, to enable them celebrate Christmas and New Year with their families.
According to Hon Akinlola-Hassan, each of the vulnerable residents will receive 25,000 naira cash.
The council chairman concluded that the first batch of the identified vulnerable residents will receive the cash palliative before December 25th,2023.
Meanwhile, the newly inaugurated chairman of Nigeria Union Of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Oriade LCDA branch, comrade Folashade Bello has showered encomiums on Hon Akinlola-Hassan for showing empathy towards the plight of workers and vulnerable residents in the council, during the present economic hardship prevailing in the country.
Comrade Bello submitted that workers in Oriade Council have been experiencing relief since August, this year, when they started receiving the cash palliative.
She also expressed her appreciation to the council chairman for provision of a new coaster staff bus for the workers, also in the month of August.
Comrade Bello said, ” Since August,staff of the council living in Badagry axis of the state have been enjoying free transportation services, and this has greatly reduced the money they spend on transportation and in return increase their productivity at work”.
The NULGE Chief appealed to the council chairman to fulfill her promise, to procure another staff bus that will serve workers living in Igando, Ikotun, Egbeda, Ipaja areas of the state.
