2027: Omotola Predicts Highest Voter Turnout, Gives Tinubu 20 States, Atiku 9, Obi 8
The Publisher of Politico.ng, Eng. Lai Omotola, has predicted that the 2027 general elections will witness the highest voter turnout in the nation’s history, with about 40 per cent of registered voters expected to cast valid ballots.
He also disclosed that preliminary projections ahead of the 2027 presidential election indicate victory for the APC candidate, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in 20 states, while Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the ADC is projected to win nine states and Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party is projected to win eight states.
During an interactive session with newsmen at his office in Maryland, Lagos, Omotola said Nigerians expect nothing short of free, fair and credible elections, adding that it would be a shame if the justices of the Supreme Court had to determine the winner after the government had spent over N1 trillion on the conduct of the election.
He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to sustain and improve on the performance it exhibited during the recently held Osun State governorship election, which produced a clear winner without any of the major contenders approaching the court to challenge the outcome.
According to him, just as the votes of the people of Osun State were counted during the August 15 election, the same standard should be maintained in the 2027 general elections. He therefore urged Nigerians to come out en masse to exercise their franchise.
Omotola pointed out that the electoral map projections showed that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, would retain the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), despite the confidence expressed by the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, that he would deliver Abuja to President Tinubu.
He further predicted that Wike might lose his political stronghold, Rivers State, because, according to him, the minister is “chasing two rats at the same time.”
The Publisher of Politico.ng further disclosed that the projections would be released monthly until the 2027 election, with all the projections collated and made available to the public by December 18.
He, however, stressed that what is currently being undertaken is a preliminary projection, noting that political heavyweights in the various states would ultimately influence voting patterns and determine the outcome of the election.
According to Omotola, the 2027 election would be shaped by three major ideologies. The first is the politics of rotational presidency, promoted by the nation’s founding political leaders and based on power rotation between the North and South.
The second is the Northern Agenda, which, he said, is based on the belief that the North brought the current administration to power but has not benefited sufficiently from it, and would therefore support Atiku Abubakar.
The third is an emphasis on competence and capacity, which, he said, would favour Peter Obi.
Omotola expressed confidence that President Tinubu, benefiting from the incumbency factor, would perform strongly across the states of the federation. He, however, stressed that the only way to defeat an incumbent is through an overwhelming number of votes.
He insisted that Peter Obi would be strong in the South but might struggle to win Imo State because of the influence of Governor Hope Uzodinma. He also projected that Kano and Lagos states would be won by the APC.
On the proposed G100 Summit, Omotola predicted that the gathering would produce little electoral impact, arguing that its promoters lacked a political “talisman” capable of delivering the votes required to win the presidency.
He also maintained that Peter Obi would not step down for Atiku Abubakar, noting that Atiku secured more votes than Obi in the 2023 presidential election.
