Ports Security: CP Maritime Solicits Stronger Media Partnership to Combat Crime

The Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority, Western Command, CP Oluwatoyin Iyabode Agbaminoja, has called for stronger collaboration with maritime journalists to enhance information sharing, public awareness, and accountability in the fight against crime within the port environment.

Speaking while hosting members of the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) during a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters, the CP affirmed that the Command would continue to liaise positively with the media to curb criminal activities within the ports.

While expressing appreciation for the visit, she acknowledged the critical role of the media in shaping public perception and promoting transparency within the maritime industry.

She reiterated the Command’s readiness to collaborate with AMJON in combating misinformation, promoting accurate reportage, and highlighting both security successes and challenges within the port environment.

The CP emphasised that effective communication between security agencies and the media is vital in addressing security challenges and showcasing achievements within the maritime domain.

She reassured stakeholders and the general public of the Command’s commitment to maintaining a secure and conducive environment for maritime operations.

Earlier, the delegation, led by the President of AMJON, Mrs Vera Osokpo, commended the Command for its sustained efforts in ensuring security, safety, and operational efficiency within the nation’s western ports.

The journalists noted that the improved security architecture across port facilities has significantly contributed to the ease of doing business and strengthened stakeholders’ confidence in Nigeria’s maritime sector.
