Wale Raji Highlights 2,000 Streetlights, Police Upgrade, Schools, Markets in Epe Constituency
A member of the National Assembly, Hon. Wale Raji, has disclosed that over 2,000 streetlights have been installed across his constituency to protect lives and property, particularly in identified black spots.
He also revealed that the Epe Divisional Police Station, now upgraded to a divisional headquarters, has been refurbished and equipped with modern facilities to enhance emergency response. The facility, recently commissioned by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, was named after the first indigene of Epe to retire as an Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Ganiyu Atanda Agbaje.
The federal lawmaker made these disclosures while featuring live on Rainbow 94.1 FM’s Gbagede Oroprogramme, anchored by Opeyemi Makinde.
Hon. Raji explained that most of the projects were executed through the Constituency Project initiative, clarifying that funds were not released directly to lawmakers. Instead, they are permitted to recommend projects and monitor their execution.
He noted that Epe faces challenges in access to schools, adding that through his intervention, over 170 classrooms have been constructed in areas such as Itemu, with the establishment of Junior Community High School and Senior Secondary School, as well as in Ilara and Odu Obara. These schools were also furnished with modern furniture.
The lawmaker further stated that the Oriba community, with its large population, previously had no secondary school. This gap, he said, has been addressed with the construction of Oko Abe Junior Community High School, eliminating the risks students faced while travelling by water to attend school.
According to him, Epe Secondary School, one of the oldest schools in the area, has been provided with new male and female hostels, alongside other projects scheduled for commissioning this Friday by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa.
Hon. Raji also disclosed that Aiyetoro Market, which is over 80 years old, had part of it redeveloped by private developers at the cost of ₦3.6 million. Through the Constituency Project, he said, additional shops were constructed and allocated free of charge to traders as a form of sustainable empowerment.
He added that about 800 shops have also been built in other markets, including Mojoda, Itoikin, and Agbowa, and distributed free to residents.
On social welfare, the federal lawmaker stated that 150 residents aged 70 years and above were selected and paid ₦10,000 monthly for over five years, with regular visits made to monitor their wellbeing.
He further revealed that more than 50 indigenes have secured employment at the federal and state levels, while over 200 residents were trained in animal husbandry in Araga and supported with ₦100,000 each as take-off capital.
Addressing reports that the Itoikin, Gberigbe, and Ikorodu–Epe roads had been abandoned, Hon. Raji dismissed the claims, noting that contractors are still on site, with additional support from Senator Tokunbo Abiru.
