Photo News: Lagos Unveils Fortified Eko Rice to Combat Malnutrition


The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Agriculture and Food Systems, Dr. Oluwarotimi Fashola, and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, Mr. Emmanuel Audu, led other government officials and major development partners to commission the Rice Fortification Blending Plant and launch the Fortified Eko Rice at the Lagos Rice Mill, Imota, Lagos.

The fortified rice contains essential micronutrients such as iron, zinc, folic acid, and vitamins B1, B3, B6, and B12.

The product is expected to help address the pressing challenge of malnutrition, particularly among young children across the country.

Some of the development partners at the commissioning include Melas Adoko, Technical Specialist, Food Quality Supply, United Nations World Food Programme; Ayodele Elizabeth Tella of Technoserve Solution; Jimoh Bolaji Gambari, Chief Standards Officer at the Standards Organisation of Nigeria; and Funke Adetayo, who represented the Director General of NAFDAC at the event.
