Senator Oluremi Tinubu Advocates Greater Access to Mental Health Support on World Mental Health Day
The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, has called for stronger advocacy and improved access to mental health services, especially during crises and emergencies, as the world commemorates World Mental Health Day 2025.
In her message marking the global observance themed “Access to Services – Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies,” Senator Tinubu emphasized the need for compassion, connection, and collective action to address the mental well-being of those affected by traumatic events.
She noted that mental health often remains under-prioritized in emergency responses and urged stakeholders to close the gap by fostering an environment where people can speak openly about their struggles without stigma or discrimination.
“We must bridge this urgent gap and create an environment where everyone feels safe to talk about their anxiety, depression, or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) without being judged or labelled,” the First Lady said.
Senator Tinubu further appealed to Nigerians to pay attention to the “unseen burdens” carried by others, reaffirming that mental health support should be recognized as a guaranteed right, particularly for vulnerable groups.
“Check on someone today. Be the access. Happy World Mental Health Day,” she averred.
