The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has called on Nigerians abroad to deliberately project the positive image of Nigeria instead of focusing only on negative narratives.

Dabiri-Erewa made the call on Saturday during a visit to the United Kingdom where she met with two distinguished Nigerians holding top political positions.
At Nottinghamshire County Council, she celebrated Councillor Christopher Adegoke, who made history as the first person from an ethnic minority background to become Chairman of the Council since its establishment in 1889.
Describing the feat as significant, the NIDCOM boss said Adegokeβs emergence is “another testament to the excellence, resilience, and leadership qualities of Nigerians in the diaspora.”
In London, she also visited Councillor Rosaline Ogunro, who was recently sworn in as Mayor of Islington. Receiving Dabiri-Erewa in her office, Mayor their thanked her for the visit and urged Nigerians to continue to project the good image of the country wherever they found themselves.
Beyond politics, Dabiri-Erewa also celebrated academic excellence by Nigerians abroad. She spotlighted Dorcas Akanbi, a Nigerian medical graduate from Rostov State Medical University in Russia, who graduated with an exceptional 4.90/5.00 CGPA.
She also honored Dr. Monilola Adeshina, who emerged as Valedictorian and Best Graduating Student of the Medical Class of 2026 from the Medical University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland.
The NIDCOM Chairman described the achievements as “a reflection of the brilliance, determination, and global competitiveness of Nigerian youths,” adding that such accomplishments continue to elevate Nigeria’s image on the international stage.
She commended all four Nigerians for making the nation proud and urged others in the diaspora to strive for excellence while remaining worthy ambassadors of the country.
Dabiri-Erewa emphasized that while no nation is without challenges, Nigerians must deliberately celebrate success stories and the positive impact citizens are making globally.
According to her, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has embarked on far-reaching reforms and critical infrastructural development initiatives aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable growth and national prosperity.
She, therefore, urged Nigerians in the diaspora to support national development by contributing their expertise, investments, skills, and global networks toward the countryβs progress.
She reaffirmed NiDCOMβs commitment to engaging and celebrating outstanding Nigerians abroad whose achievements continue to enhance the countryβs image on the global stage.
