Government Stakeholders from Multiple States Undertake Learning Visit to Lagos DSVA
Government stakeholders representing Ondo, Oyo, Osun, Kwara, Gombe, Delta, Borno, Ogun, and Edo States, participated in a learning visit to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) on May 7, 2025. The visit was facilitated by Invictus Africa, a non-governmental organization dedicated to social justice and human rights.
The learning visit commenced with introductions, followed by a welcome address by the Executive Secretary of the Lagos DSVA, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi. Mrs. Vivour-Adeniyi expressed her delight at hosting the delegation, acknowledging their commitment to eradicating sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) within their respective states.
Mrs. Bukky Shonibare, Executive Director of Invictus Africa, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of evaluating the performance of various states in their response to issues of domestic and gender-based violence. She highlighted Invictus Africa’s methodology, which employs data-driven indices and indicators, including a color-coded grading system (Blue, Green, Amber, and Red), to assess the level of development and effectiveness of state-level interventions. Mrs. Shonibare also acknowledged the invaluable assistance provided by the Lagos DSVA Executive Secretary in previous instances, and expressed gratitude for the agency’s willingness to host the learning visit.
The Executive Secretary of the Lagos DSVA provided a comprehensive overview of the agency’s history, mandate, and achievements. This was followed by detailed presentations from the Heads of various Departments and Units within the DSVA, outlining their specific roles, functions, and operational strategies.
During an interactive session, the visiting stakeholders articulated the specific challenges they encounter in their respective states. The Executive Secretary of the DSVA responded by providing detailed and actionable solutions tailored to address these challenges. The visiting team also inquired about the possibility of ongoing collaboration and support from the DSVA, particularly in instances where complex challenges arise. The DSVA Executive Secretary assured the delegation of the agency’s commitment to providing assistance and support as needed.
The learning visit concluded with a question and answer session, followed by a guided tour of the DSVA facilities, providing the visiting stakeholders with firsthand insights into the agency’s operations and resources.
At the closing session, Mrs. Bukky Shonibare, the Executive Director of Invictus Africa, expressed her profound gratitude to the Lagos DSVA for hosting the delegation and for the knowledge shared. She presented a plaque of appreciation to the Executive Secretary and the agency, in recognition of their exemplary work and commitment to combating sexual and gender-based violence.
