LASTMA FEMALE ELITE CORPS UNDERTAKES EMBER MONTHS COURTESY VISIT TO HER EXCELLENCY, DR. (MRS.) CLAUDIANA IBIJOKE SANWO-OLU, AT THE STATE HOUSE, MARINA, LAGOS

In an exemplary display of commitment to public enlightenment, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Female Elite Corps, led by its General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, paid a momentous courtesy visit to Her Excellency, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, at the State House, Marina, Lagos, earlier today.

Addressing the Officers, Her Excellency emphasized the paramount importance of health awareness among LASTMA personnel, given the strenuous and environmentally hazardous nature of their duties. She advocated for consistent medical evaluations, particularly of the respiratory system, to mitigate the risks posed by prolonged exposure to vehicular emissions and other pollutants.

“Your health is indispensable,” she declared. “Routine medical checkups are not just necessary but essential to preserving your productivity and resilience in the face of daily challenges.”

Dr. Sanwo-Olu further stressed the critical need for digital literacy, urging Officers, particularly mothers, to ensure that both they and their children acquire proficiency in computer and internet usage, which are indispensable skills in today’s digital era. She encouraged the Female Elite Corps to foster ambition and strategic goal-setting within their families, ensuring their children are nurtured to achieve purposeful lives.

Additionally, Her Excellency reiterated the advocacy priorities of her office, including addressing societal challenges such as sexual harassment, child abuse, gender equity, HIV awareness, and immunization. She reaffirmed her unwavering dedication to initiatives that strengthen family values and societal development.

“Let me emphasize that maintaining physical fitness is equally critical for LASTMA officers, given the demands of your role,” she added. “Engaging in exercises like swimming, which greatly benefits the body and overall system, is highly recommended.”

In his introductory remarks, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki shed light on the vision behind the establishment of the LASTMA Female Elite Corps in late 2023. He explained that the unit was designed to intensify public education on responsible driving practices, particularly during the ember months—a period marked by increased road traffic incidents.

Mr. Bakare-Oki also highlighted LASTMA’s recent strides in public engagement and operational efficiency. “The launch of our Toll-Free Call Centre, 0800-005-27862, has been instrumental in fostering seamless communication between the agency and the public, enabling us to promptly address traffic-related concerns,” he remarked.

He further underscored the agency’s steadfast commitment to ensuring commuters reach their destinations safely and efficiently, while continuously enhancing road traffic management strategies.

This courtesy visit exemplifies LASTMA’s unwavering dedication to forging meaningful partnerships and prioritizing the welfare of both its officers and the motoring public across Lagos State.
