Mosque Guidance and Development Lagos Initiative Unveils 3-Day Anniversary Programme to Promote Better Mosque Management, Hygiene

The Mosque Guidance and Development Lagos Initiative (MGDLI) has announced a three-day anniversary programme to promote good governance, proper documentation, hygiene, health, safety and sustainable development of mosques.

The programme, scheduled for Friday, October 30, to Sunday, November 1, 2026, will hold at the Lagos State Old Secretariat Mosque Hall (Ayinke Hall), Shamsi Adisa Thomas Central Mosque, Oba Akinjobi Way, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

With the theme, “Building Better Mosques: Documentation, Good Governance and Hygienic Environment,” the programme will feature a keynote lecture on “Mosque Documentation and Hygiene: The Foundation for Sustainable Islamic Development.”

The initiative aims to equip Imams, mosque committees and administrators with practical knowledge to improve accountability, preserve institutional records, maintain hygienic environments and strengthen the welfare of worshippers.

About MGDLI

MGDLI is an NGO committed to promoting effective mosque administration, transparency, capacity building and infrastructure maintenance. It also seeks to collaborate with government and other stakeholders on mosque development through training, seminars, workshops and voluntary support.

The organisation envisions mosques as well-managed centres of worship, learning, community engagement and social development.

Three-Day Programme

Day One: Friday, October 30 — Jumu’ah Service and Medical Outreach

The programme begins with an anniversary Jumu’ah service from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, featuring special prayers for MGDLI, mosques and the Ummah.

The Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN) will facilitate a medical outreach from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, offering general health checks, blood pressure and blood sugar screening, counselling and referrals where necessary. Media interaction with the organisers will also feature.

Day Two: Saturday, October 31 — First Aid and Environmental Hygiene

From 9:00am to 11:00am, Hajia Owolarafe Haulat, Founder of Haulat Pola Foundation and mosque sanitation advocate, OAU, Ile-Ife, will lead a practical session on mosque and toilet cleaning, sanitation and hygiene.

From 11:00am to 1:00pm, the organisation will distribute 100 first-aid kits to mosques, alongside sensitisation on their proper use, health and emergency preparedness.

Day Three: Sunday, November 1 — Lecture, Panel Discussion and Networking

Prof. Saheed Olurotimi Timehin of Lagos State University (LASU), an Islamic scholar and Da’wah expert, will deliver the keynote lecture from 9:00am to 1:00pm.

Dr. Muiz Banire, SAN, legal icon and Muslim community advocate, will chair the occasion.

The panel discussion will feature Hon. AbdulHakeem AbdulLateef, Alhaji Oladimeji Animashaun, Alhaji Adegbenga Ojikutu and Alhaji Taiwo Olapade, alongside other experts.

A faith-based hospitality and halal networking session, anchored by Hajia Maryam Mobolanje Sanni-Awe, Founder of Glazing Memoirs, will follow from 1:00pm.

Benefits to Mosques and Muslim Communities

The programme is expected to improve mosque administration and accountability, encourage proper record-keeping, promote cleaner worship environments and strengthen health awareness and emergency preparedness.

It will also foster knowledge sharing, partnerships and collaboration among Imams, mosque committees, Islamic organisations, professionals and other stakeholders committed to community development.

Call for Participation

MGDLI invites Imams, mosque administrators, Islamic organisations, Muslim scholars, community leaders and Muslims generally to participate. Partnerships and support from institutions, philanthropists and other stakeholders are also welcome.

The initiative reaffirms its commitment to cleaner and safer mosques, better management and stronger Muslim communities, in pursuit of its vision of “Better Mosques, Stronger Communities, A Brighter Tomorrow.”
