Orile Agege Chairman Urges Residents to Embrace Proper Waste Disposal, Environmental Sanitation

Residents of Orile Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have been urged to comply with environmental laws and dispose of their waste properly to avoid causing nuisance in their neighbourhoods.

The Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. Idowu Akinola Abiodun, gave the charge while speaking with journalists at the council secretariat in Orile Agege.

He said the advice became necessary in view of the havoc caused by recent torrential rains in some parts of the metropolis.

The council boss renewed his appeal to residents to patronise only duly registered Private Sector Participants (PSPs), noting that waste collected by operators approved by the authorities is guaranteed proper evacuation and disposal.

He also urged residents to cooperate with the council in safeguarding the environment against indiscriminate dumping of refuse and to ensure regular payment of waste management bills to their assigned PSPs.

Hon. Idowu Akinola Abiodun attributed the flooding experienced in some areas to the blockage of canals and drainage channels. He assured residents that the council would continue its desilting activities to ensure the free flow of water during the rainy season.

The chairman also commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Hamzat, for embarking on a spot assessment of areas severely affected by the rains as part of efforts to alleviate the suffering of affected residents.
