Lagos Accountant-General Hosts ANAN Ikeja, Reaffirms Commitment to Capacity Building and Financial Excellence

The Accountant-General of Lagos State, Dr. John Muyiwa Adetola, FCA, has reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to strengthening the capacity of certified accountants in the public service through sustained training and participation in professional conferences.

Dr. Adetola gave this assurance while receiving the Chairman of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Ikeja Branch, Mr. Ekundayo Omitaomu, FCNA, alongside members of the branch’s Executive Committee, during a courtesy visit to his office.
The visit afforded the ANAN delegation the opportunity to congratulate Dr. Adetola on his recent appointment and to commend his longstanding contributions to the growth and development of the accounting profession. The Chairman noted that the Accountant-General’s track record of professionalism and institutional support has continued to inspire confidence within the accounting community.

Mr. Omitaomu emphasized that the visit was also aimed at strengthening collaboration between ANAN and the Office of the Accountant-General. He reiterated the importance of supporting accounting officers through mandatory continuous professional development programmes, while highlighting the need for closer institutional synergy to promote global best practices, enhance capacity building, and reinforce transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public financial management.

In his response, Dr. Adetola expressed appreciation for the visit and the goodwill extended to him. He reiterated his commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in the public service. The Accountant-General identified training, regulatory compliance, and financial governance as key areas where collaboration with ANAN would be beneficial, and assured the delegation of his intention to present a proposal to the Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on the sponsorship of accountants for mandatory professional development programmes.

The engagement highlighted a shared commitment between ANAN Ikeja Branch and the Office of the Accountant-General to promote excellence, integrity, and effective service delivery, while underscoring the importance of strategic partnerships in achieving sustainable development within Lagos State’s financial management system.
