Lagos APC Commends Progressive Governors’ Forum

PRESS STATEMENT BY THE LAGOS STATE CHAPTER OF THE ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS (APC)
ON THE PROGRESSIVE GOVERNORS’ FORUM (PGF) MEETING HELD IN LAGOS, 5TH–6TH DECEMBER 2025

A Defining Stand in a Defining Moment.

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) heartily commends the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) for the remarkable sense of clarity, unity of purpose, courage, and patriotic responsibility displayed at its historic meeting held in Lagos on the 5th and 6th of December, 2025.

At a time when our nation stands at a critical intersection of reform, sacrifice, and renewal, the Progressive Governors have stood firmly on the side of truth, responsibility, and nation-building. Under the purposeful leadership of the Chairman of the Forum, His Excellency, Hope Uzodimma, and the impeccable hosting by the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the PGF once again proved that progressive leadership is not about convenience, but about conviction.

Bold Support for Renewed Hope

We applaud the Forum for its unambiguous reaffirmation of support for the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. At a time when political opportunists thrive on misinformation and national pessimism, the Progressive Governors chose to anchor their engagement on facts, data, governance responsibility, and the long-term interest of Nigeria.

Their endorsement of ongoing reforms in food security, power, transportation, infrastructure, enterprise support, social investment, and national security reflects deep strategic alignment between the states and the centre – a synergy that is absolutely critical for national recovery and sustainable growth.

People-Centred Governance in Action

The Lagos APC particularly commends the Forum for placing citizens’ welfare at the heart of governance. The broad-based review of Nigeria’s political, economic, and social realities and the commitment to protect the dignity of Nigerians across all strata – workers, entrepreneurs, youth, women, the elderly, rural and urban dwellers alike – is a powerful reassurance that the social contract remains alive under progressive governance.

This is leadership that listens. This is leadership that feels the pulse of the people. This is leadership that does not govern from ivory towers.

Courage in the Face of Economic Realities

We salute the uncommon honesty with which the PGF addressed the temporary hardships associated with necessary macroeconomic reforms. Rather than trading in denial or hollow propaganda, the Governors acknowledged the sacrifices of Nigerians and resolved to scale up targeted interventions in food production, SME support, youth employment, and social protection for the most vulnerable.

Their commitment to coordinated action with Federal institutions, the National Economic Council, and Local Governments is a testament to mature governance and shared responsibility.

A Defining Moment in Our National Journey

This meeting has once again reinforced the fact that progressivism in Nigeria is alive, disciplined, and driven by results – not noise. While some choose the path of distraction and political grandstanding, the Progressive Governors have chosen the harder path of leadership, reform, and nation-building.

The Lagos APC is proud that Lagos State continues to play host to defining moments in Nigeria’s democratic and developmental journey. We are convinced that history will record this PGF meeting as one of those moments when leaders chose courage over comfort and responsibility over rhetoric.

Conclusion

We urge Nigerians to take confidence in the clarity of purpose demonstrated by the Progressive Governors. The road of reform is never easy, but it is the only road that leads to lasting prosperity. The PGF has sent a loud and reassuring message: Nigeria is on course, the leadership is aligned, and the future remains deliberately hopeful.

Once again, we salute the Progressive Governors for standing up to be counted at a time like this in our nation’s history.
