OLORUNDA: KUMAYON INAUGURATES 6TH LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL
In line with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution and the Lagos State Local Government Administration Law, the Executive Chairman of Olorunda LCDA, Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon, has officially inaugurated the 6th Legislative Council of the LCDA. This follows the successful swearing-in of 57 elected local government chairmen and their vice chairmen by the Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, on Sunday, 27th July 2025, at the Government House, Alausa, Ikeja.
The triumphant entry of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon, at the Secretariat was warmly received by the Council Manager, Alhaji Adesanya Moruf Olanrewaju, in a celebration marked by fanfare, glamour, and cheerful humour. A grand guard of honour was mounted by the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps (LSNSC), complemented by vibrant cultural songs and dances—a clear testament to the Chairman’s status as a true man of the people.
At a brief but historic ceremony held at the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Multipurpose Hall, Olorunda LCDA Secretariat, the Council’s Legal Officer, Barr. Monsurat Afolabi, administered the Oath of Office, Oath of Allegiance, and Oath of Secrecy to the newly elected councillors. The names of the newly sworn-in councillors are as follows:
- Ward A: Hon. Aina Dauda Isaac
- Ward B: Hon. Bamgbose Yinka Gbenga
- Ward C: Hon. Elijah John Post
- Ward D: Hon. Ewetan Emmanuel Iyanu
- Ward E: Hon. Ambe Alice Itunuoluwa
The Executive Chairman and the councillors also signed the statutory documents, signaling the commencement of legislative business in the LCDA.
In his address, Chairman Kumayon reiterated his commitment to collaborative governance, emphasizing that the era of executive-legislative antagonism is over. He noted that their victory at the just-concluded local government elections was not merely political but a mandate to serve, to legislate, and to act in the best interests of their constituents. He declared his readiness to work hand-in-hand with the councillors to formulate and pass by-laws that will drive development and deliver democratic dividends to the grassroots.
“We must build a synergy that respects the rule of law, adheres strictly to the principle of separation of powers, and yet work together with unity of vision to formulate policies and laws that speak to the actual needs of our people,” he asserted.
Speaking further, he added,”Let me advise that we must embrace the guiding principles of consultation, cooperation, and collaboration (CCC). It is only under a congenial atmosphere that the people can positively feel the impact of government.”
Hon. Kumayon urged the newly inaugurated councillors to remain close to their people by attending ward meetings regularly and staying attuned to grassroots needs. He also called on residents to fulfill their civic obligations by paying rates, levies, and taxes, which are essential for the successful implementation of government projects and programmes.
With the legislative arm now fully constituted, the administration of Hon. Ajose is set to intensify efforts towards people-centered governance, policy formulation, and grassroots transformation, in line with the THEMES Plus Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
