Lagos APC Reacts to Protest Over LG Cabinet Formation, Urges Calm and Constructive Engagement

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has responded to a protest staged at the Lagos State House of Assembly over the composition of local government cabinets, assuring party faithful and stakeholders that the process will remain transparent and in line with internal party guidelines.

In a statement signed by the Lagos APC Spokesperson, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the party acknowledged the demonstration and commended the protesters for conducting themselves peacefully, describing such actions as a legitimate part of civic engagement in a democracy.

“We wish to recognize, acknowledge and respect the rights of party stakeholders and members to express grievances in a democratic manner. Peaceful protests are a legitimate feature of civic engagement, and we commend those who have conducted themselves calmly and orderly,” the statement read.

Hon. Oladejo clarified that the selection of cabinet members across the 20 Local Government Councils and 37 Local Council Development Areas will strictly adhere to the party’s internal processes and recommendations from local leadership following proper consultation.

He emphasized that the role of the state chapter of the party in the selection process is purely advisory and firmly denied any attempts by the state leadership to impose candidates on any council.

“We vehemently deny any allegation of imposition. The power to nominate cabinet members resides with the local leadership of the party. We advise all interested members to approach their local leaders, who are the rightful custodians of the nomination process,” he stated.

The party appealed to protesters to channel their concerns through the appropriate party organs, noting that established structures exist to address dissent, evaluate claims, and foster internal unity.

“APC remains confident in its capacity to resolve internal issues without external escalation. Our ultimate goal is stability within both the party and the state governance structure,” the statement added.

The spokesperson urged for continued patience, mutual understanding, and constructive participation from all stakeholders to ensure that the final outcomes reflect fairness and the core values of the APC.

Dated Sunday, July 28, 2025, the party reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive governance and unity across all levels.
