AMJON 2025 Conference: NSML, NIMASA, NPA, NSC, Other Maritime Gurus to Present Papers, Receive Awards of Excellence in Lagos

Top maritime organizations, including NSML, NIMASA, NPA, and NSC, are set to deliver insightful papers and receive awards of excellence at the 2025 Conference and Awards organized by the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON), scheduled to hold this Friday in Lagos.

These distinguished institutions and individuals, recognized for their outstanding contributions to the maritime sector, will be honored by the association during the high-profile event.

The conference, themed “Maritime Development: Training, Port Efficiency, and Shipping Imperatives,” is slated for Friday, July 18, 2025, at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Lagos. The event is expected to commence at 10:00 a.m., with attendance from key maritime stakeholders and policy makers who have confirmed their participation.

According to the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Comrade Paul Ogbuokiri, the presentations will enrich and explore the conference theme extensively.

“NSML will present a paper titled ‘Vintage Position, Services, Contributions to Economy and National Development’.

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) will speak on ‘Repositioning Nigerian Ports for Global Competitiveness and Excellence’,

while the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) will deliver a paper titled *‘Ensuring Safety and Security on Nigerian Waters — What Plans and Options?’” he disclosed.

He added that the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) will present a paper on “The Need for Efficient Port Regulation in Nigeria’s Port Industry,” while the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron—the country’s foremost maritime training institution—will speak on “Ensuring Efficient Manpower in the Nigerian Maritime Industry — What Strategies and Options?”

Comrade Ogbuokiri further revealed that AMJON, as the leading watchdog of the maritime sector, will honor notable organizations and individuals who have demonstrated excellence and made significant contributions to the growth of the industry.

He expressed optimism that the conference will feature detailed and informative presentations on strategic maritime topics, addressing key challenges and exploring emerging opportunities within the sector.

“The honorees were carefully selected based on AMJON’s established standards of excellence and rigorous evaluation criteria. They have shown exceptional dedication to the maritime industry and national development,” he stated.

Some of the recipients of the 2025 Awards of Excellence include NSML, NPA, NIMASA, NSC, MAN Oron, Inland Containers Nigeria Limited (ICNL), and the Chairman of Isoko North LGA, Delta State, Hon. Prince Godwin Ogorugba.

Also set to be honored is the newly elected President of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu, in recognition of his leadership and successful conduct of union elections nationwide. JournalNG, a leading maritime media outfit, will also receive an award as the most consistent maritime publication in Nigeria.

In his remarks, Comrade Kelvin Kagbare, President of AMJON, emphasized the importance of the conference in promoting innovation and efficiency in the maritime sector.

“We have painstakingly put this conference together to spotlight the optimization of port operations through digitalization, automation, and smart port technologies aimed at reducing congestion, boosting productivity, and enhancing customer satisfaction,” he said.

Comrade Kelvin assured participants of in-depth presentations, expert analyses, and engaging discussions that will serve as catalysts for new collaborations, business opportunities, and strategic partnerships within the maritime industry.
