Lagos LG Election: CP Jimoh Declares Battle-Readiness, Assures Peaceful Poll
By Raheem Ibrahim
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Moshood Jimoh, has declared that his officers are battle-ready to ensure a peaceful and successful local government election across the state.
Speaking with journalists at the command headquarters in Ikeja, CP Jimoh revealed, βWe have been meeting for several days with the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), and we have fine-tuned all arrangements to ensure peaceful, free, and fair elections throughout the 20 local government areas and 37 LCDAs.β
βAs I speak, the operation order has been finalized, and our deployment plans are in place. Additionally, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has approved supplementary deployments to Lagos from contiguous statesβrunning into thousands. These deployments include essential anti-riot equipment,β he added.
CP Jimoh noted that while the command already possesses adequate tools, the IGPβs support enhances operational capacity. βWeβve also brought other security and safety agencies on board. Weβve had several inter-agency meetings, and weβve mapped out all critical areas for coverage.β
He assured that all threat assessments have been conducted, and identified flashpoints are under close watch. The Marine Police have been mobilized to patrol both urban and rural waterline areas.
βWith over six million registered voters in Lagos, we encourage all eligible residents to come out and vote massively for the candidates of their choice,β he said.
The security strategy, according to him, is divided into three phases: pre-election, election day, and post-election security arrangements. βProblems can arise before, during, or after the elections, and we are ready for all scenarios,β he emphasized.
The CP stated that all 15 political parties participating in the election are already campaigning, and the police have engaged their leadership to promote peaceful conduct.
On logistics, he noted that a restriction of movement may be imposed in certain areas on election day. βOur control room will be fully operational at the command headquarters, with the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations coordinating real-time responses with military and agency representatives.β
He concluded by affirming the commandβs collaboration with LASIEC to ensure security before, during, and after the election. βWe are on the same page. Our goal is a safe, peaceful, and credible local government election across Lagos State,β he said.
