Insecurity on Lagos Island: Dr. Dolapo Badru Installs Over 200 Solar Street Lights with CCTV Cameras to Curb Criminal Activities in Constituency 1

Concerned about the rising wave of criminal attacks on Lagos Island, a member of the House of Representatives for Constituency 1, Dr. Enitan Dolapo Badru, has taken decisive action by installing over 200 solar-powered streetlights equipped with CCTV cameras to tackle insecurity in the area.

Reliable sources indicate that Hon. Badru, alarmed by frequent reports of miscreants attacking innocent residents and snatching their belongings under the cover of darkness due to epileptic power supply, embarked on this project to enhance security and ensure perpetrators are identified and brought to justice.

An authoritative source revealed that the lawmaker aims to restore the Island’s past glory, reminiscent of the 1960s and 1970s, when people could move freely from Olowogbowo to Isale-Eko, Obadina, Itafaji, and Freeman without fear of harassment or attacks, thanks to functional streetlights.

According to the source, the era of street fights and gang clashes, where hoodlums vandalize properties and disappear into the shadows, will be drastically reduced. With improved lighting and surveillance, residents will now be able to identify attackers, leading to their swift arrest by security agencies.

“Some of these criminals take advantage of the darkness to carry out their nefarious activities and escape. But with lights everywhere, it will no longer be easy for them because residents can now easily identify them,” the source hinted.

He further stated: “Lagos Island used to be a peaceful place where people could gather at their usual spots to unwind after a day’s work. But now, miscreants have taken over. By 8 p.m., people are already panicking if they are not at home because they don’t know what could happen on their way back.”

The source also commended Hon. Badru for his proactive approach to security and other initiatives, including the recent distribution of noodles to over 1,000 constituents for Ramadan.
