First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Receives 2024 Woman of the Year Award

…Dedicates award to all Nigerian women, youth, and children

The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been honored with the 2024 Woman of the Year Award by Independent Newspaper in recognition of her contributions to national development—not only as First Lady but also as a former legislator and wife of a governor.

•A cross-section of wives of National Assembly members, family members, and female politicians, with Wife of the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Remi Hamzat; Wife of the Speaker, House of Representatives, Hajia Fatima Tajudeen Abbas; Wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; Chief Olabode George; and SSG to the Lagos State Government, Barr. ’Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, after the presentation of the 2024 Woman of the Year Award to the First Lady (received on her behalf by the Wife of the Speaker) by Independent Newspapers, held in Lagos on Saturday, 15th March 2025.

Speaking on her behalf after receiving the award, the wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hajia Fatima Tajudeen Abbas, conveyed Senator Tinubu’s appreciation, stating that the honor would inspire her to do more for Nigerians.

“She asked me to thank the Board of Directors of Independent Newspapers Limited for this great honor accorded to her. This recognition will further motivate her to continue her work for the benefit of Nigerians.”

At the same event, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, was named Man of the Year, while Chief Bisi Akande, former APC National Chairman, received the Lifetime Achievement Award. The awards were presented by the Chairman of the Occasion, Chief Olabode George.
