“…You Have a Reserved Space Within the Lagos State Public Service,” HOS Tells One-Day Governor
The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, alongside his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, and top government officials, hosted Abdulazeez Abdulrahmon, the overall winner of the 20th edition of the Spelling Bee Competition, who emerged as the One-Day Governor of Lagos State, on Monday.
The One-Day Governor program, organized by the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) in conjunction with the New Era Foundation and the Office of the First Lady of Lagos State, is an annual event.
Master Abdulazeez Abdulrahmon, the One-Day Governor, was accompanied by his team members, the One-Day Deputy Governor, Master Oki Sewanu Coordinator of Ansar-Ud-Deen Senior Grammar School, Badagry, and the One-Day Secretary to the State Government, Miss Saheed Alimot-Odere of Jubilee Model Senior Grammar School, Coker Aguda. They were warmly received by Governor Sanwo-Olu and his wife at a reception organized at the Lagos House, Marina, on Monday.
During the visit, Governor Sanwo-Olu congratulated the students for their remarkable achievements, noting that the Spelling Bee Competition has continually fostered confidence and vocabulary development among participants.
At a subsequent reception at the Exco Chamber, Lagos House, Ikeja, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who received the One-Day Governor and his team on behalf of Governor Sanwo-Olu, urged the students to emulate past winners who have excelled in various fields.
In response to the One-Day Governor’s request for an ICT laboratory for Oriwu Senior Model College, Governor Sanwo-Olu assured him that the project would be executed. He directed the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Tolani Alli-Balogun, to commence work on the request.
The Governor described both the current One-Day Governor and previous Spelling Bee Competition winners as shining examples of the state’s commitment to nurturing future leaders.
The First Lady, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, alongside the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, encouraged the students to continue pursuing academic success, assuring them of the government’s commitment to creating conducive learning environments across the state.
The Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro, also commended the government’s investment in education and assured the students of future opportunities within the public service, stating, “There is a reserved place for you within the Lagos State Public Service upon completing your education.”
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, explained that the official tour undertaken by the One-Day Governor and his cabinet aimed to broaden the young leaders’ knowledge and provide valuable experiences for their future careers.
Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics at the OEQA, Mr. Remi Abdul, lauded the sustained efforts to keep the One-Day Governor initiative active. He noted that the competition, which saw Abdulrahmon emerge as the winner, was keenly contested across zonal and state levels, serving as a morale booster for students.
The One-Day Governor expressed gratitude for the warm reception and described the experience as enlightening and unforgettable. He highlighted that visiting key government offices was eye-opening, providing a lasting and cherished experience for him and his team.
He thanked the State Executive Council for their support and encouragement.
