Kantara…‘Immortalized’ 46 years after!
He earned it. So, he deserves a place in the history of St. Charles Grammar School, Oshogbo.
The members of The St. Charles Old Students Association (SCOBA) had dug into the school’s sports archives to unearth its greatest moment. The school’s football team became champions of the Old Oyo State (that included present day Osun State) by winning the 1978 prestigious Principals Cup.
It was for the first and only time in the school’s history. It was achieved under the captaincy of their star player and midfield maestro, Kunle Raji, nicknamed ‘Kantara’.
Meanwhile, a new, ultra-modern stadium complex has sprouted and is nearing completion within the premises of the school courtesy of the SCOBA Members.
The main Pavilion is named after my bosom friend and brother, ‘Kantara’.
Today, I am invited to the events of the 2024 Biennial Convention and Founders Day celebration of the school. We visit the site of all the projects.
At one special site, however, Kantara and I step aside from the group to ‘steal’ a moment for a pose, a broad smile on his face in humble gratitude to his school for bestowing on him this honour of ‘immortality’.
