Sanwo-Olu to bid 2024 Lagos State Hajj pilgrims farewell

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu will on Thursday, bid the State’s intending pilgrims farewell, as they begin their journey to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the Y2024 Hajj exercise on Friday.

The Secretary, Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mr. Saheed Onipede disclosed this in a statement issued by the Public Affairs unit, that the Governor, his deputy, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat and other government functionaries would be at the One-Day Seminar organised by the Board as a climax to the weekend lectures and enlightenment programme held across the local government areas of the state for the intending pilgrims.

According to the statement, the seminar with the theme: ‘Achieving a Blissful, Rewarding and Acceptable Hajj experience’, would take place at De-Blue Roof, Lagos Television (LTV) ground, Agidingbi, Ikeja, on Thursday, May 16, 2024. It is designed to further broaden the knowledge of the intending pilgrims on the requirements of Hajj rituals and educate them on the do’s and dont’s concerning international travels.

Onipede emphasised that the Chief Imam of Igbogbo Central Mosque, Sheikh AbdulRahman Lukman would be the guest lecturer while the Grand Chief Imam of Lagos, Sheikh Sulaiman Olohuntoyin Abou-Nolla would lead other Islamic clerics in offering prayers for the state government and pilgrims in order to achieve a successful Hajj operation.

He also disclosed that representative of Federal Government Agencies such as National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Customs, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Police, among others, would be in attendance to offer some pieces of advise to the intending pilgrims on their general conduct in the holy land.

Other functionaries expected at the occasion includes Hon. Commissioner for Home Affairs, Hon. Olanrewaju Ibrahim Layode; Special Adviser to the Governor on Islamic Matters, Dr. Ahmad Abdullahi Jebe and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Mrs. Lolade Aina.

Others are Board Chairman, Imam (Engr.) Shakiru Ayinde Gafar, Board members, stakeholders, families and friends of the intending pilgrims.

Meanwhile, a special prayer session has been held for the purpose of achieving a successful Hajj operation by the State Muslim Board over the weekend.

The prayer session which was led by the Ulamah (league of Islamic Clerics) and Hajj Guides took place at the Shamsi Adisa Thomas (SAT) Mosque, GRA, Ikeja.
