Lagos commends success of Sunday Market as Lagos Island East LCDA holds 15th Community Market

The Lagos State Government has expressed delight with the success recorded so far by the Ounje Eko Sunday Market currently underway across 20 Local Governments and 37 LCDAs in the state.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Abisola Olusanya who disclosed this said feedback from various Local Governments encouraged the state to initiate more measures to get food to the door steps of residemts.

Abisola Olusanya stated this at the 15th edition of the Community Market and palliatives distribution by the Lagos Island East LCDA to residents of the area.

While commending the council chairman for sustaining the initiative, the commissioner noted that other council chairmen and state lawmakers have further subsidized the Ounje Eko for the benefit of the people.

On his part, the Council chairman, Muibi Folawiyo urged residents to report contractors who have failed in executing contacts awarded to them just as he renewed call on corporate bodies in the area to support all ongoing people’s oriented projects.

He also attributed the success of the community Market programme to the Legislative Arm of the council for their full support.

Hon Folawiyo announced that the council had planned other initiatives for residents that will culminate into the celebrations of the Sallah Festival.

According to him, the Sunday Market opened by Governor Sanwo-Olu across the state will be sustained in addressing the food crisis in the state.

The council chairman disclosed plan to relocate he programme to a more spacious space due to increasing number of beneficiaries.

The Council Manager, Alhaji Ademola Azeez was glad with the large turn out of residents.

He explained that the event demonstarted the commitment of the Chairman to the well being of the people.

Also speaking, Mr Odusanya who represented the Auditor General of the state said the people can see what they are spending the council funds on.

He referenced other capital projects in ensuring the improved well-being of the people.

In his brief remarks, Prince Akannbi Eshinlokun said that the initiative was unique among Local Government Areas in the state.

He also prayed for continued good.health and wisdom for him to continue the project.

Prince Eshinlokun also solicited the support of other wealthy residents of the area to support the Chairman in providing succour to the residents of the council.

Secretary to the Local Government, Mr Olawale Seriki said he has seen the council grow over the last few years since Folawiyo came into office.

He said the chairman has continued to fulfill his electioneering promises to the residents and wish him a smooth return in 2025 council poll.

Alhaji Rasaq Noibi of the Community Development Committee said the council is a pacesetter among others in the state and urged residents to be patient with the authority.

Some of the food items sold at a discounted prices include; Rice, Beans, Garri, Egg, Palm Oil, Yam, Live Chicken, Noodles and dried fish
