Lagos Island East LCDA solicits support of corporate bodies towards reducing hardship faced by residents
The authoritiy of Lagos Island East LCDA has solicited the support of the corporate bodies towards reducing the current sufferings and hardship faced by the residents.
The chairman of the council, Muibi Folawiyo made this appeal at the flag off of the 14th edition of the palliative distribution and Community Food Market exercise within the council area.
He disclosed that the council now spend more money on security of lives and property due to threats caused by hunger and poverty in the land.
The council boss noted that since most of the corporate bodies have their headquarters within the area, they should provide Corporate Social Responsibility to support the residents.
Muibi Folawiyo promised to reduce charges paid to the local government if the companies including bank, telecoms, insurance, go into partnership with the council.
He explained that the leadership of the council is aware of escalation prices of food itmes and other goods adding the Governor had mandated the council to ease sufferings in their various areas.
On his part, the Majority Leader of Itire-Ikate LCDA, Isiak Kazeem who applauded the programme said that it has reduced hunger and poverty among residents of the council.
He also said that it was good that the current exercise is coming close to the start of Ramadhan fast
Representing the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs at the event, Ganiu Giwa said the state is proud of this iniative and want other Local Government to emulate it.
Also speaking, theVice chairman of APC in Lagos Island, Fatai Alaka noted that the sustenance of the programme for fourteen episodes shows the love of the council to the residents.
Some of the food items sold at subsidized prices include; Rice, Beans, Garri, Yam, Noodles, Egg, Oil, Live Chicken and Fish.
