Obele Community Senior High School wins Lagos Quiz competition in commemoration of World Food Day
Obele Community Senior High School, Surulere has emerged winner of the Quiz competition organised by the Lagos State government in commemoration of this year’s World Food Day.
Agidingbi Senior Grammar School, Ikeja came second while Alaro Senior High School, Epe was third in the competition participated by fifteen selected public schools across the state.
While welcoming the students at the event, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms Bisola Olusanya said the future of the students and the youths who are the future of the country must be guranteed and well protected.
She said that the essence of the exercise was to appreciate the importance of Agriculture and to showcase the potentials Lagos has to offer in the sector.
According to her, the theme of this year’s celebration “Water is life, water is good, leaves no one behind” demonstrates the importance of water to the success of Agriculture.
Ms Olusanya noted that people should learn how to conserve water especially due to the adverse effects of the Climate change in the world.
She stressed that without water, there will be no life in any living things.
The Commissioner appreciates the support of the Ministry of Education and the media towards the successful conduct of the competition

On his part, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, Dr Oluwarotimi Fashola said he is proud to be associated with the project.
He said Agriculture is no longer the business of the old and encouraged everyone to embrace it.
The Governor’s aide believes Agriculture if fully harnessed has the potentials to feed the nation.
He urged the students to chose any of the branches of Agriculture and maximise its potentials.
He further said and i quote “Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence are now applicable to the sector to revolutionaries Agric in Nigeria and the rest of the world. To apply IT in different level of Agriculture is to change the face adding he looks forward to a brighter futures for the students.” End of quote.
Speaking on behalf of one of the sponsors, the Dangote Sugar Refinery, Mr Rilwann Yusuf described the partnership as worthy for necessary boost in the Agric sector in the state.
He said that more of the cash them young programme for the Students should be encouraged.
He described Agriculture as a lifeline for any nation charging government to open up the sector to create more jobs for the teeming population in the country.
About 15 Schools participated in the Quiz competition including; Gbaja Girls Senior High School, Surulere, Agidingbi Senior Grammar School, Ikeja, New Era Girls Senior Secondary School, Surulere, Community Senior Secondary School, Mushin and Alaro Senior High. School, Epe.
The World Food Day is marked every October 16th to find solution to the challenges facing food shortages in the globe.
