CDHR takes Lagos Assembly to task over BAMISE’ s murder and MOHBAD’s death
Human Rights organization known for defending the rights of citizens of Nigeria – Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) has taken the Lagos State House of Assembly to task over the brutal murder of Bamise Ayanwola inside BRT bus and the death of pop singer – Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba population known as “Mohbad”.
The Lagos State Chairman of CDHR – Comrade Kehinde Adeoye; the State Secretary – Comrade Adewunmi Adesina and the State Publicity Secretary – Comrade Chika Mary stated this in a statement released to newsmen.
The Human Rights organisation, while commiserating with the family of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba on the demise of their son and urging the investigating authorities to unearth the circumstances surrounding his untimely death, wondered why the Lagos Assembly was quick to lend its voice to the call for the cause of death of Mohbad to be unravelled while ignoring the call to unravel the circumstances surrounding the gruesome murder of 22 year-old Miss Oluwabamise Abigail Ayanwola inside a Lagos State Government facility – the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) being operated by LBSL (Lagos Bus Services Ltd.).
To have kept mute over the brutal murder of a Lagos commuter who patronised the BRT bus thinking it was safe but unfortunately met her untimely death inside the vehicle over nineteen months ago but in less than 2 weeks, reacting publicly to Mohbad’s death, stating that the cause of death should be unravelled, leaves much to be desired.
The statement describes Lagos State House of Assembly’s reaction to Mohbad’s death as “mere hypocrisy”.
The statement added that the CDHR members in their large numbers, stormed the Lagos State House of Assembly at Alausa-Ikeja, Lagos on Tuesday 11 July, 2023 – the day that made it 500 days that Bamise Ayanola was “murdered in cold blood” insisting on seeing the Speaker but after over 4 hours of insistence, the Majority Leader of The House eventually met with the protesters, and promised to pass our message to the leadership of the House.
An official letter regarding same, was delivered and received in the office of The Hon. Speaker on 26 July, 2023 and copied : The Chief Judge of Lagos State; the Attorney-General & Commissioner for Justice; the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State; Office of The Clerk of The House of Assembly; Majority Leader of The House; O/C, Civic Engagement – Governor’s Office; Women Advocacy, Research & Documentation Centre (WARD C) urging the authorities to prevail on the Lagos State Judiciary to give the murder case the “accelerated hearing” it promised but up till this moment, nothing has been heard from the Lagos State House of Assembly on Bamise’s case which has suffered series of unnecessary adjournments.
Only the office of The Chief Judge of Lagos State acknowledged the letter. ” JUSTICE DELAYED IS JUSTICE DENIED “.
The statement also challenged the authorities to confirm if truly the murder suspect – Andrew Nice Omininikoron is still in prison custody.
It would be recollected that 22 year-old Miss Bamise was raped and murdered (autopsy report) inside BRT bus on Saturday 26 February, 2022 around 7.30pm between Chevron Bus-stop, Ajah and Lagos Island while on board BRT No. 240257.
Thursday 19 October, 2023 will make it 600 (six hundred) days since she was murdered yet justice is still being awaited.
